Bree is cloned!
Marcia Cross in an Austrian Detergent commercial that I found on YouTube. When Bree faces herself, who wins? Hilarious! Also, you don’t need the sound, because there are subtitles, but its funny to hear Bree speaking Austrian.

Shoes For Charity
The actresses from Housewives are using their fame to help a good cause in the Spirit of Women Celebrity Red Shoe Auction.
An article on earthsite said that all four of the main actresses each autographed one of a pair of shoes for the cause. The shoes, designed and donated by Carlos Santana, were auctioned off on E-bay. The proceeds from the auction will go to benefit several health organizations.
The bidding ended on September 24. Nicolette Sheridan’s pointy toed stiletto pumps went for $360.
Teri Hatcher’s red patent high-heeled sandals went for $350.
Eva Longoria’s gorgeous red animal print pumps went for $355.
Pictures of the shoes are from the red shoe website. You can also look on that site for information on the auction and the cause. Marcia Cross’s shoes will be auctioned off in February.
The auction is a cornerstone of the Red Health Initiative, a campaign to help women learn about and promote heart health.

A Gay Couple in the Applewhite House
Desperate Housewives has never shied away from gay themes. After all, Mark Cherry, the head writer, is gay himself. There was Andrew and Justin in the first and second season, and then Andrew seduced Bree’s bisexual sex addict lover in the second season. But during the third season that plot-line was somewhat ignored as Andrew just concentrated on getting back into sync with his family after his time on the streets.
But as the fourth season starts, everyone is buzzing about the new couple that will be moving into the Applewhite house. The new gay couple. In an interview, Cherry told Afterelton,
“We’re going to have the first male desperate housewives,” said Cherry, the show’s gay creator and head writer. “They will move into the old Applewhite house and one of the gay men will just have a fractious, hateful relationship with Teri Hatcher.”
E! Online even knows who will be playing the new couple
Judging Amy’s Kevin Rahm and One Life to Live’s Tuc Watkins have nabbed recurring roles on the series. They will play the show’s first gay couple, but details are scarce about their exact story line.
They are not set to be in the show until episode 5 or so, which will air in October, therefore the scripts are not completely fleshed out yet, but Cherry has also said that the fight with Susan will not be over the fact that they are gay, but be caused by the fact that she is trying too hard to show her acceptance and, in classic Susan Style, puts her foot in her mouth.
Either way, I am glad to see this topic back in the storyline. Sexuality is as much of a cause for drama as anything else, and what is Desperate Housewives for if not to show the dramas of the world?

Parking for Desperate Housewives
We see TV commercials and billboard ads and I was even pleasantly surprised to see Eva Longoria on the side of a local bus the other day. But in LA people are going even furthur. A Colorado-based advertising company has started putting advertisements on the lines between parking spaces! Its a bit hard to read in the pic below, but the lines between the parking spaces read “Parking for Desperate Housewives” and the time of the show. (Sundays at 9)

The Reserved for Desperate Housewives curbs are mainly in grocery stores from Valencia to Oceanside. Most people who read them thought the idea was clever and funny. The LA Daily News article on the parking spots has found people that think the new ad space is clever and funny, and even the one person in every situation who just didn’t get it, and got offended.
But a Ralph’s manager said not everyone has been amused.
“We’re getting complaints,” said the manager, who declined to be named. “They say, well, they’re not desperate and they don’t want to park here. They take it as an insult.”
Marilyn Porter points out in her blog that there are quite a few people that agree with this point of view. They do not want to be called housewives, even if they are, and they definitely do not want to be labeled as desperate. But as she points out, almost all publicity, even complaining unadmitted housewives, is good publicity.
The money for this type of advertising does not only go to the advertising company. It also goes to the stores who allow the advertising in their parking lots. Ralph’s Grocery is taking the campaign even furthur in its stores. Ralph’s is giving out goodies like free nail files to promote the start of the show. Even seeing it online makes me excited for the 30th!

Why does Desperate Housewives have an audience?
When asked why people watch Desperate Housewives, most viewers, me included, answer “Cause it’s funny and I like it.” But different ideas are circling the Web daily about why Desperate Housewives draws so many people to their television sets every Sunday night.
One theory is that people are desperate to see a more domestic scene in television without losing the racy excitement. Troy Patterson of Slate said
After Carrie (of Sex in the City) toddled away in 2004, the dames of ABC’s cunningly polished soap opera Desperate Housewives replaced her at the center of pop-cultural female fantasy. The show became a hit not just because it was funny and foxy; it lucked into a moment when the audience was hungry for domestic cheese.
That answer may work for most of the women, but what about the men? Yes, you heard me right, men. Maria Fernandez of the LA Times tells us that 40 percent of the viewers are men. Her article published on azcentral gives lots of men’s opinions why. Those opinions vary from the sex appeal to the fast-paced nature of the show, which is more action-oriented than most shows in the soap opera genre.
I plan to explore this and many other critical themes as this blog continues. Stay tuned, and comment and tell me why you watch!

Season 4 previews
I am waiting anxiously with the rest of the fans for the next season to start and watching the Internet with baited breath for the slightest hint of resolution to the questions left unanswered at the end of the last season.
I just saw the season 4 previews on abc’s website, and was very very surprised with some of the directions the show will take. The previews show Gabi agreeing to run away with Carlos on her wedding night! And the new neighbor woman, played by Dana Delaney, is already fighting with Bree, and it almost seems like she is winning! She seems to have the perfect life, and she knows it, and isn’t afraid to show it off!
In one of the interviews with the cast on the ABC site entitled “Something Mysterious with Desperate Housewives. Behind the Scenes,” Eva Longoria reveals a slight secret about the upcoming season.
I know that someone’s dying. By episode six or seven…..I hope it’s not me!
This makes me more excited for the next season than ever. More updates soon!

Up to Season 4
While we all wait anxiously for the first day of Season 4, obsessively watching reruns on www.abc.com, I’m sure we can all use an update on where we left anyone during the summer “time freeze” while they tape new shows.
Lynette has lymphoma, and her mother comes to help her deal with her medical bills. The problem with this is that Lynette cannot stand her mother, who supposedly was drunken and abusive in the past. Tom tells Lynette that she has to put up with her mother because the mother is giving them the money for the medical bills, and she can view it as penance for Rick. The mother overhears and asks Kayla about Rick, and of course, in return for getting to watch movies, Kayla spills all.

So, comment away. Any theories on Season 4, which starts on September 30? Will Gabrielle stay married? Will Edie stay dead?
